The Read - The Day of the Sardine
A Rural Media Production
We were brought on by Rural Media to direct and produce the third episode of the Read for BBC Arts – a series of creative performance readings of four iconic British novels. We had the pleasure of bringing Sid Chaplin’s 1960’s Newcastle set ‘The Day of the Sardine’ to the small screen.
Through the compelling performance of Mark Benton as Arthur Haggleston, the episode charts a typical Sunday for Arthur as he recalls the memories of his working-class youth, the odd jobs, the fleeting romances, and the gang crime that became his only outlet.
